Who We Are

WCREC is a feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression community-based mental health agency which has been providing free services to Metropolitan Toronto and the surrounding area since 1976
.
WCREC provides assessment to callers seeking our services. We also provide referrals to screened therapists in private practice, referrals to self-help groups in the community and referrals to a myriad of community organizations. WCREC also has an in-house counselling service offered to low-income women.
Our overall goal is to promote the mental and emotional well-being of women.

WCREC serves the whole of Metro Toronto and does not have service limits due to contact by phone, email and internet.

Staff

Agency Manager


The Agency Manager oversees the administration and personnel details of WCREC. This includes tasks such as contact with funders; supervising the staff team; ensuring all administrative reports are prepared and accurate; dealing with financial matters including preparing and overseeing the budget; payroll; working with the bookkeeper; liaising with the Board of Directors.

Direct Service Coordinator


This full-time job is currently divided into two part-time job-share positions. One, the Therapist and Systemic Advocacy Coordinator involves screening prospective therapists for the therapist referral list; being the contact for new therapists interested in being listed on WCREC’s referral database; working with any individuals who may have questions or concerns about ethical therapy; dealing with any potential concerns, complaints or issues about therapists; and systemic advocacy. The second job-share position is the Student Training and Counselling Referral Coordinator. This position involves training and supervising all staff in the phone line room; supervising and training students; and preparing the monthly phone line schedule.

Resources and Self Help Coordinator


Tasks in this full-time job include monitoring new self help groups in Toronto and surrounding area that are free, accessible and appropriate for those who call us and seek out our services; keeping all resources up to date and current; outreach to community groups and organizations; engagement in community joint ventures.

In-House Counsellor


The WCREC In-House Counsellor works full-time and sees clients who have been referred for assessment, single sessions and brief therapy. The In-House Counsellor also provides clinical supervision to all placement students.

Direct Service Client Worker


The DSCW works part-time as a support to the Therapist and Systemic Advocacy Coordinator as well as BackUp Supervisor in the phone line room. The worker outreaches to therapists listed on WCREC’s database to determine low cost availability within their practice and is a contact for therapists who may have any questions or updates for their listed profile information.

Back Up Phone Room Supervisor


Back Up provides supervision during phone line shifts. Duties include training, providing referral services to callers, delegation of shift tasks, support for Referral Workers and students, following up on tasks completed by Referral Workers and students, providing crisis counselling and single session counselling, and finding therapist matches from callers looking for individual therapy. Back Up may also provide advocacy for callers from low-income, poor, marginalized and psychiatrized communities, for safe support that is free or low cost.

Phone Line Referral Worker


Phone Line Referral Workers provide referral services to callers, provide crisis counselling and single session counselling, and find therapist matches from callers looking for individual therapy. Referral Workers may also provide advocacy for callers from low-income, poor, marginalized and psychiatrized communities, for safe support that is free or low cost.

Facilitator Training Program (FTP) Co-Facilitator


For details on the Facilitator Training Program, please email us at ftp@wcrec.org. The two FTP co-facilitators interview prospective participants to the program, which runs for 8 weeks in the spring and fall of every year. The FTP co-facilitators plan the sessions and facilitate the learnings of FTP participants.

Administrative Assistant


This part-time position performs many administrative tasks, as well as liaising with the Agency Manager and the agency bookkeeper. The Administrative Assistant is also the contact for the AGM, membership and donation inquiries.

Bookkeeper


The part-time bookkeeper does all the financial tasks including entering invoices, monitoring petty cash and bank accounts and preparing cheques.
